QUALCOMM

The WorkServer platform is the compute engine for QUALCOMM's CDMA Intelligent Base Station Controller. The customized WorkServer is used as the server platform for three subsystems of the Intelligent Base Station Controller: the Base Station manager (BSM), Home Location Register (HLR) and Call Detail Access (CDA). GNP used its Rapid Product Realization (RPR) process and OEM Manufacturing capabilities to quickly develop QUALCOMM's added specifications for the WorkServer to deliver the compute power for QUALCOMM's wireless infrastructure products. Although not in production yet, QUALCOMM plans to purchase 150 units.

Nortel

Nortel is licensing QUALCOMM's CDMA technology and is using the WorkServer as the platform for the Base Station Manager (BSM) in their Base Station Controller. Nortel is supplying the CDMA product to a range of customers including the Sprint Telecommunications Venture PCS network. Approximately 100 to 150 WorkServers are planned for Nortel's deployment.

ATT True Voice

The WorkServer (called the Interim Per Call Controller Gateway by AT&T) serves as the controller through which every True Voice phone call travels. The WorkServer "resets" the True Voice technology to a neutral setting between every AT&T long distance call. This custom configuration functions as a large multiplexor using 2 SPARC 10 motherboards and 4 standard Sun HSI (Sbus) cards for the two CPU's to communicate. In addition, these components are the link between the 56 KB input and the GNP SBus technology which multiplexes the calls into 128 asynchronous RS422 serial I/O ports. The "True Voice" WorkServer is deployed at 150 AT&T Central Offices.

Lucent

The WorkServer has been selected for Lucent's CDPD Mobile Data Intermediate System (MDIS). The MDIS provides efficient, cost-effective processing for access to the CDPD network and interconnection with other MDISs. The system routes packets between the originating Mobile End System and another mobile or fixed end system, and provides authentication, registration, message transfer, system accounting and billing data collection. GNP Computers is the complete system integrater for the MDIS and ships directly to Lucent Technologies customers such as Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile, Comcast, Ameritech and BellSouth. The MDIS is also deployed in Ecuador, Peru and China. Fifty WorkServers are deployed for the CDPD application.

Texas Instruments

The GNP WorkServer functions as the switch controller interfacing with the media server for TI's voice activated applications. These applications include voice activated speed dialing, voice activated calling card, spoken caller ID, voice authorization service and other cellular voice services. TI needed a Sun SPARC-based, NEBS-certified platform designed for the Central Office and the WorkServer provided an ideal solution.

UUNET

The WorkServer is UUNET's platform for distributed news services for their Internet service. UUNET required a -48 volt, NEBS-certified server designed for the Central Office and the GNP WorkServer meets these criteria. In addition, because some of the servers will be deployed in "dark" offices, the WorkServer's Intelligent Maintenance Bus and its remote power cycling capability make it especially well-suited for UUNET's needs. The installation has begun with plans for twenty WorkServers to be deployed in the next six months.

NYNEX

The WorkServer at NYNEX, referred to as "InfoPath" system, runs an Informix database authenticating the password for all customers who dial in on the NYNEX X.25 network. NYNEX required this platform to be Continuous Availability, NEBS-certified and include 7x24 support, all of which the WorkServer and GNP offers. After the WorkServer checks users' passwords they are routed to the switch and have access to the Internet and other online services.
